Buying a Large Rug
Planning guide
A large rug changes a room. It is also heavy and bulky, so a little planning makes the day it arrives much easier.

The short version
- Larger rugs are heavy and arrive rolled in a long box. Plan a clear path and two people.
- Tape-test the size before you order. See the Rug Size Guide.
- Delivery details are on our Shipping & Returns page.
- Check the rug as soon as it arrives, and contact us promptly with photos if anything is wrong.

Which sizes are "large"?
We use "large" for 8′ × 10′ and up. Not every rug comes in every size, so check each product page.
| Size | In inches | Often used for |
|---|---|---|
| 8′ × 10′ | 96 × 120 in | Most living rooms, queen bed, 4 to 6 seat dining table |
| 9′ × 12′ | 108 × 144 in | Large living room, king bed, 8 seat dining table |
| 10′ × 14′ | 120 × 168 in | Open-plan room, large dining table |
| 8′ round | 96 in across | Round dining table up to 48 in across, large entry |

Before you order
- Measure the room and tape-test. Mark the rug on the floor with painter's tape and live with it for a day. For a living room, the front legs of the sofa and chairs should be on the rug at minimum. For a dining room, add 24 to 30 in on every side of the table.
- Measure the path. A rolled rug is long and awkward. Check the doors, hallway turns, stairs and any elevator between the entrance and the room, and clear the way.
- Line up a second person. Plan on two people to carry the box and to unroll and position the rug.
- Check the details at checkout. Confirm the delivery address, and make sure someone can receive the box. Delivery estimates and any shipping charges are shown at checkout before you pay.
- Consider a pad. Whether a pad suits a particular rug is noted on the product page when we know. A pad can help keep a large rug from sliding.
Weight and handling
Larger rugs are heavy and arrive rolled in a long box. We show a rug's weight on its product page when we have it. Lift with a second person, keep the rug off wet ground, and do not drag it across the floor, which can pull at the edges.
Delivery
We ship within the contiguous United States. Delivery details, estimates and any shipping charges are on our Shipping & Returns page and are shown at checkout before you pay. Delivery times are estimates, not guarantees.
If you have a question about delivery to your address, such as an upper floor or a long path from the street, call us at (833) 962-0777 before you order.
When it arrives
- Look at the box first. If it looks damaged, take photos before you open it.
- Open it where you can see the whole rug, and check the size, pattern and color against your order.
- Keep the packaging until you are happy with the rug.
- Contact us promptly if the rug is damaged or is not the item you ordered. Send your order number and clear photos so we can help.
Setting it down

- Lay out the pad first, if you are using one, then unroll the rug in place with a second person.
- A rug that has been rolled may have creases. Lay it flat and give it a little time to settle.
- Check the placement against your tape marks before you move the furniture back.
Returns
Return conditions apply, including that return shipping is paid by the customer. Please read the full terms on Shipping & Returns before you order. Because a large rug is bulky to send back, measure carefully first.
